Three members of the New York University men's basketball team were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Monday, February 27. Freshman Jimmy Martinelli was named Rookie of the year, while co-captains Ross Udine and Joe Timmes were named second Team and Honorable Mention, respectively.

Martinelli started all 25 games for the Violets this season and led the team in rebounds (8.2 rpg) while ranking third in scoring (8.9 ppg). The freshman led all UAA rookies in scoring and rebounding and ranked fourth in the Association in rebounding. He is the first NYU UAA Rookie of the Year since Udine earned the honor two seasons ago.

Udine, who was named Honorable Mention All-UAA the past two seasons, received Second Team honors after leading NYU in scoring (16.1 ppg) assists (4.5 apg) and minutes (33.8 mpg). The junior's scoring and assist totals both rank fifth in the UAA. Udine is climbing his way up the Violet career record books as scored his 1,000th career point in the season finale vs. Brandeis and ended the season just seven assists shy of tying the program record (437).

Timmes received his first-career UAA honor after finishing second on the squad in scoring (14.1 ppg), rebounding (6.8 rpg) and minutes (30.8 mpg). The senior finished eighth in the UAA in rebounding and ranked 11th in both scoring and three-point percentage (39.2%).

The Violets concluded the 2016-17 campaign with a record of 7-18. NYU will return its entire roster next season with the exception of Timmes, who is due to graduate from NYU's School of Professional Studies in May.
